SERIOUSLY, IF I EVER BECOME POPULAR FOR ANYTHING, I FULLY INTEND NOT TO BE ONE OF *THOSE* POPULAR PEOPLE.
I know that when you’re popular, there’s always going to be people who hate you, for good reason or not. I’m aware of that. But I’d really prefer for those people to be of the irrational, inexplicable kind rather than giving anyone actually good reason to dislike me and dread seeing my name anywhere.
I make bad decisions and take bad advice from time to time, but when those things happen, I do my best to make amends for it by putting my hands up, admitting where I was wrong and making an effort to improve my behaviour by learning from my mistakes. The people I dislike do not do that. That’s what I dislike about them.
Having popularity doesn’t mean that you’re above treating other people decently. It doesn’t mean that you’re above making mistakes, it doesn’t mean that you’re immune to this sort of shit. It can be difficult to see that, when you’ve got a massive buffer of people around you who’ll kiss your ass for everything you do because they desperately want you to like them, but just because that buffer is there and you can pretend that the people calling you out are some angry, irrational minority fairly easily, it doesn’t mean that the people calling you out are wrong.
Popularity can turn people into such shitheels.
I really hope it never happens to me.
